Pack Smarter, Travel Better
Checked baggage fees have skyrocketed. More importantly, waiting at baggage claim is 20–40 minutes of your life you're not getting back. The carry-on revolution is here — and once you master it, you'll never go back.
The 5-4-3-2-1 Method
- 5 pairs of socks and underwear
- 4 tops (mix of casual and smart-casual)
- 3 bottoms (one should be jeans)
- 2 shoes (wear the bulkiest pair on the plane)
- 1 layering piece (jacket or sweater)
This formula works for trips up to 10 days when you have access to laundry, which most hotels and Airbnbs provide.
Roll, Don't Fold
Rolling clothes reduces wrinkles and saves up to 30% more space. Use packing cubes to compress everything further and keep categories separated.
The Liquids Strategy
The 3-1-1 rule (100ml containers, 1 quart bag, 1 bag per person) sounds restrictive but isn't. Buy solid toiletries — shampoo bars, solid conditioner, and toothpaste tablets have become excellent. Purchase any large liquids at your destination.
Shoes Are the Enemy
Shoes consume the most space and weight. For most trips, three pairs cover everything: walking shoes (worn on plane), sandals, and one dressier option. Choose versatile colors.
The Jacket Hack
Wear your bulkiest item on the plane — a heavy jacket can turn into a pillow, blanket, and weight allowance saver simultaneously.
The Carry-On Checklist
Before zipping up, ask: Did I pack anything 'just in case' that I've never actually used on a trip before? Remove those items ruthlessly. Travel light, travel free.
